The odds of being burglarized
Across the areas that reported to the FBI in 2024, there were about 130 home burglaries per 100,000 residents. That works out to roughly one for every 760 people in a year.
Averages hide a lot. In New Hampshire the rate is under a quarter of that, and in New Mexico it's more than double. This page shows where your state sits.

What odds like these mean
Odds like these describe a population, not a house. A rate of 130 per 100,000 doesn't say that any particular home has a 1 in 760 chance, because burglaries cluster: some streets, property types and houses get hit again and some never do.
NIBRS can't tell us about repeat victims, so this page can't say how much of the risk is concentrated. It can say how much reported burglary there is where you live. The figures are per resident, not per household.
